Hengga Intelligent Equipment Receives Government Funding for Ultralight Brake Disc Laser Machining Project
The Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province recently announced the 2025 list of approved projects under the Central-Guided Local Development Fund. Longkou Hengga Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd, together with researchers from Harbin Institute of Technology, has successfully secured a ¥1 million grant for the project titled “Key Technologies and Industrial Demonstration of Optical-Mechanical Coupled Multi-Axis Laser Machining for Ultra-Hard Brake Disc Materials.”
Driven by the implementation of the Euro 7 / China 7 emission standards, traditional cast iron brake discs— notorious for particulate emissions — are being replaced by ultra-hard materials such as tungsten carbide and carbon-ceramic composites. However, machining these advanced materials has been a challenge for the industry due to high processing difficulty, expensive foreign laser systems, and imbalanced efficiency versus cost.
Hengga Intelligent has independently developed a multi-axis femtosecond laser machining tool featuring optical-mechanical coupling and precision motion synchronization. It achieves a machining accuracy of ±0.005 mm and repeat positioning accuracy of ±0.003 mm, with a yield rate exceeding 90%. This innovation cuts production costs drastically and breaks the long-standing technological monopoly of Swiss and German manufacturers.
The company's well-established product line—including Brake Disc Vertical Lathes, Dual-Tool Vertical Lathes, Brake Disc Drilling and Tapping Machines, and Brake Disc Grinding Machines—will complement the new laser system. Together, they will form a seamless manufacturing chain that integrates rough processing and precision finishing for brake discs.
The project is expected to reach an industrial output of ¥10 million upon completion, reduce particulate emissions by about 40%, and fully comply with Euro 7 and China 7 standards. Beyond the automotive sector, its technological applications will extend to aerospace components and medical device manufacturing, contributing to sustainable and high-quality industrial development in China.
