Brake Disc Vertical Lathe — Stable Structure for Efficient Multi‑Size Brake Disc Machining

Update Time  2025-08-28 18:06 Read

In the initial phase of brake disc manufacturing, the vertical lathe plays a pivotal role in shaping the raw casting into a near‑final form. In the production flow shown in the video, the brake disc vertical lathe steadily machines both faces of the workpiece, preparing it for subsequent drilling, tapping, and surface finishing operations.

This type of lathe often adopts a thermally symmetric box‑type structure, which reduces deformation caused by heat during cutting. Its vertical arrangement allows the workpiece to be naturally clamped by gravity, lowering bending stress on the spindle and cutting tools, thus maintaining machining stability.

For multi‑variety manufacturing, the chuck and fixture system can be adjusted to accommodate brake discs of different diameters and thicknesses. This allows for relatively quick changeovers, essential for production lines serving multiple vehicle models. One setup can complete both faces, reducing intermediate handling and re‑clamping time, and keeping pace with downstream processes.

Typically, a brake disc emerging from the vertical lathe proceeds to a drilling & tapping station for bolt‑hole machining. The quality established here, in terms of dimension and surface finish, significantly influences downstream efficiency and consistency. The brake disc vertical lathe, therefore, serves as both the starting point and a quality gate in the production chain.
